When Did It All Start?

I started DJ'ing in 1999 because I wanted to do more with music than just listen to it. DJ'ing allowed me the opportunity to, not only allow myself to feel the music but, influence other peoples emotions through music. I decided I wanted to DJ when I was in L.A. and heard Black Eyed Peas "Joints and Jams". I thought "that would be a great song to mix." And the rest is history...

How Did You Get The Name DJ Kuya?

I used to work at the gym at SJSU and my co-workers called me Kuya because it means older brother in tagalog. Once I started DJ'ing house parties they started calling me "DJ Kuya". I didn't have a DJ name so I didn't mind at the time. Then when I did one of my first club events the promoters put "DJ Kuya" on the flyer I just said why not and kept it.
